              I. International Institute for contemporary Buddhist studies :

1.1. Homage to Buddha Amitayus 

“To the Tathagata Immortal Infinite Life Refuge ,

Tathagata holding longevity Vase 

and Tathagata  No greed possessing Lotus Eyes I prostrate .” (1) 

        TSEDRUB GONGDU – long-life sadhana : Union of primordial essences was transmitted directly by Buddha Amitayus to Guru Padmasambhava during His meditation retreat with Wisdom Dakini Mandarava at the holy cave Maratika in Northern Nepal (2) . With this sadhana the Guru and Wisdom Dakini Mandarava accomplished the siddhi of immortality .

In the 8th Century C.E. Guru Padmasambhava wrote the sadhana down and kept it as a hidden treasure (Tib. Terma) on the rock in East Tibet , for the sake of future generations . Later great Dzogchen master Nyala Pema Dudul (1816 – 1872) rediscovered this hidden treasure . He practiced this sadhana for many years and accomplished the Rainbow body (Tib. Jalus) .

Nyala Pema Dudul transmitted this sadhana to Rigdzin Changchub Dorje (1826 – 1961)  and to Ayu Khadro (1839 – 1953) .

These illustrious Dzogchen masters were both Gurus of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche (1938 – 2018) who included Cedrub Gobgdu sadhana among Collective practices of Dzogchen community . Both Gurus of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu : Rigdzin Changchub Dorje and Ayu Khadro Dorje Paldron accomplished the Rainbow body in East Tibet . Ayu Khandro transmitted Cedrub Gongdu sadhana and all teachings of Nyala Pema Dudul to Chogyal Namkhai Norbu .

I myself obtained reading transmission (Tib. Lung) from Chogyal Namkhai Norbu at the old gompa /temple of Merigar Dzogchen Community in Toscany in Italy . 1.2. Alive Dharma History :

Why is the history of this Lineage so sublime ?

Because of the way the sadhana was transmitted by Buddha Amitayus to Guru Padmasambhava . Its written in Lamrim Yeshe Nyingpo :

“Hidden treasure of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo :
“Lord Amitayus at Maratika
And Maha Shri Heruka at Yanglesho
Bestowed upon me with the natural sound of dharmata
This sole quintessence of all the oral instructions.
If Garab Dorje, Shri Singha, the Eight Vidyadharas,
And all the supreme siddhas from whom I received the stages of the path
Were to hold a great Dharma discussion with one another,
There would be no other summary-manual than this compiling their realization.
Throughout the countries of Uddiyana, India, Tibet and elsewhere,
This is the unmistaken condensed meaning
Of all the infinite profound and extensive wheels of the Dharma
Such as guru sadhana, the Great Perfection, Avalokiteshvara and the Eight Sadhana Teachings.
In short, there does not exist an ultimate instruction other than this.
Expressed in few words yet including all that should be expressed.
Easy to comprehend and convenient to practice,
Without depending on anything else, it perfects the paths for those of lower, medium and higher faculties.

This is the self-resounding tantra of dharmata, the indestructible essence,
From the space of luminosity in the five-colored sphere within the heart of me, Padmasambhava.
It is the path traversed by all the buddhas of the three times.
Praised by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo as being more valuable than thirty yak loads of scriptures, the Lamrim Yeshe Nyingpo comprises together with the commentary by Jamgon Kongtrul, the important last volume in both the collections of termas and teachings renowned as Rinchen Terdzo and New Treasures.”

Penetration of Sound (Tib. Dra Thal Gyur) is the Root of all Dharmas .

As we know there are three modes of transmission in Nyingma Vajrayana Buddhism :

Nyingma Vajrayana Buddhism Visual Dharma

*Direct introduction to the Natural Sound of Dharmata

** symbolic transmission – for example with the shining letter A in the rainbow sphere (Tib. Thigle)

*** Oral transmission of sublime yogis (Tib. Nalyor) 

In such sublime ways Cedrub Gongdu sadhana is preserved in Ati yoga Essence lineage . In past thirty years I practiced thjis Sadhana mostly on special days of Tibetan lunar calendar  (for example on the full Moon days) . After I realised in what sublime ways it was transmitted by Buddha Amitayus (Tib. Tsepame) to Guru Padmasambhava down to terton Nyala Pema Dudul – Ayu Khadro-Chogyal Namkhai Norbu and to us , its becoming clear that this sadhana is most sublime and most precious Jewel of Ati Yoga Dharmas . 

1.3. How can we support our own practice of Cedrub Gongdu sadhana ? 

First of all wee need reading transmission (Tib. lung) , followed by explanations about visualisations, chanmting of mantras , posture and the was of life . Here I wsih to point out that realised Dzogchen master Nyala Pema Dudul advised everyone to stop eating animal food . Buddha Amitayus is the Buddha of Longevity : in this way we adopt to plant food / vegan food . I myself was a vegetarian for twenty-five years , later , that is ten years ago, I became Vegan . In Vegan life style we THRIVE not only survive . My Vegan inspiration is late Kyabje Chatral Rinpoche who was Vegan for 58 years and lived  enlightened life until he was 103 years old .

1.4. How we can integrate Vegan life style with Cedrub Gongdu sadhana of Buddha Amitayus ? 

Nyala Pema Dudul practiced three  ways of Cudlen or living on the essences of flowers. He practiced Cudlen of Nirmanakaya, Sambhogakaya and Dharmakaya . High quality Vegan food is supportive to the Cudlen of Nirmanakaya . We should grow our own vegetables in the garden with healing herbs . On my facebook account I share  very many photos in my Wellness & Holistic medicine album . 

WELLNESS & HOLISTIC MEDICINE

When we shop plant based food we imagine it as offering to the Longevity Vase in the Hands of Buddha Amitayus above our head . Its clear to any intelligent perosn that we don*t put corpses of murdered animals or milk, butter , cheese stollen from suffering animals into the Longevity Vase of Buddha Amitayus .  “Animal food” is produced with suffering and it causes suffering ! Nowdays even World Economic Forum advises people to stop eating animal “food” and change to plant based diet ! 

1.5. Questions and answers :

a) Is allopatic western medicine compatible with Buddha Amitayus longevity sadhana ? 

Allopatic western medicine uses many allopatic chemicals with dangerous side effects . Therefore its not compatible with Cedrub Gongdu sadhana : Union of primordial essences . 

b) Which medical systems are compatible with Cedrub Gongdu Longevity sadhana ? 

The most compatible natural medicine is Ayur Veda  = ancient Indian Knowledge (Skt . Veda) about healing . Even  the root syllables are the same : AYU -r-Veda  /A -mi-ta-YU-s .

Ayurveda does not recommend animal food , but herbs, vegetables . Tibetan medicine was partially developed from Ayurveda and from Medical tantras . But it uses animal ingredients in healing formulas . The same is true with Traditional Chinese Medicine . We can omit  formulas which contains animal ingredients and still learn a lot from TCM and Tibetan medicine . 

c) If we get sick – which physician should we  ask for help ? 

The best is of course to be your own doctor ! You can also ask for  help holistic medicine practitioners which are Vegans . I give Holistic medicine Consultation in person or via Skype video conference . Ask for Consultation on Skype : tara.tulku.rinpoche 

d) What is the aim of longevity sadhana of Buddha Amitayus ? 

We practice Cedrub Gongdu sadhana to accomplish the Rainbow body of light , the same as masters of our lineage have already done : Nyala Pema Dudul, Ayu Khadro . Effects of this sublime sadhana are very positive : we gradually refine our energy – our body made of five elements and five skandas or aggregates. We eventually return to the nature of five elements which are five lights , five wisdoms of Sambhogakaya dimension , based on the Natural sound of Dharmata (Tib. Chonyid kyi rangdra) . We are blessed with Buddha Amitayus and all enlightened beings of Sambhogakaya dimension .

e) How can those who don*t have reading transmission of Cedrub Gongdu sadhana still have connection with Buddha Amitayus ? 

Everyone can devotedly see Buddha Amitayus above their heads , connected to the Crown chakra . Thenm you can read, study more about Buddha Amitayus , listen to Buddha Amitayus mantra chanting and dharani . You can offer your Vegan food to Buddha Amitayus when you cook and before the meals . There are numerous ways to be connected with Buddha Amitayus . He is omnipresent enlightened Being .

It is the quintessence of one billion heart sadhanas of the Guru, the most unique terma buried in the land of Tibet; and it is the first among the Four Cycles of Guru Sadhana. This Guru’s Heart Practice, Dispeller of All Obstacles contains in completeness all the profound key points of the view, meditation and conduct of the Three Inner Tantras. It manifested from the secret treasury of the great wisdom, the vast realization of the Second Buddha of Uddiyana, as the self-existing natural vajra sounds in perfect melodious tones. Its expressions which are unmodified by the intellect of ordinary people, its words which are without delusion, and its meaning which is unmistaken, are exclusively due to the kindness of the three powerful knowledge-holders [Khyentse, Kongtrül, and Chokling], the great beings of the three families, who incarnated as masters to compile and propagate an ocean of secret teachings. It is exclusively through their kindness that this teaching was established in writing as the splendor of unending welfare and happiness for the disciples in the Land of Snow, and propagated to flourish everywhere. This pure and perfect teaching, which effortlessly bestows, in accordance with one’s wishes, the all-encompassing supreme and common siddhis, temporaily and ultimately, was an unprecedented diffusion of the gemstones of the profound meaning, like opening up for the treasury of the universal monarch. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche About the Barchey Künsel practice, which is the first and most extensive of the Four Cycles of Guru SadhanaJamgön Kongtrül says in his Seed of the Great Sal Tree: “Generally, for the basic descriptions of how to practice this, take the third chapter taught in the Sheldam Nyingjang as basis and apply them, following your teacher’s oral advice, in the extensive, medium or short version, whichever is appropriate, and in accordance with the situation in terms of place, time, and type of person. Whether you begin with the development stage or completion stage, first perform the general preliminaries of the fourfold mind-training and the four special preliminaries. For the main part, according to the system of Terchen Chokgyur Lingpa, take Sheldam Nyingjang as basis, and first practice Dharmakaya Amitayus followed by the Lotus Magical Net of Sambhogakaya, the Great Compassionate One Avalokiteshvara. After this, combine the extensive or medium version with the Nirmanakaya Padmasambhava, whichever is suitable, and complete the set number [of recitations] for approach and accomplishment. Following that, it is necessary to perform successively the specific approaches, combining the twelve manifestations with Trinley Nyingpo, and complete the four activities and the four ancillary practices as well as the practice of the teaching guardians. According to the system of the omniscient master, Padma Ösel Do-Ngak Lingpa [ Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo ], perform, as the beginning of the main part, the single mudra according to the Gyüngyi Köljang, the Daily Practice Manual, as ‘approach’; the condensed outer mandala of Trinley Nyingpo as the ‘full approach;’ Trinley Dringpo, the Medium Practice Manual, as ‘accomplishment;’ and Trinley Gyepa, the Extensive Practice Manual, together with Dzapkyi Köljang, the Recitation Manual, and so forth in a detailed way for the ‘great accomplishment.’ The samadhis and visualizations for recitation of these should conform with the root text of the third chapter [of Sheldam Nyingjang]. Having properly performed the four aspects of approach and accomplishment, perform then the ‘specific practices’ such as those for DharmakayaSambhogakayaand so forth, whichever is suitable.
