Without proper and wise translations of Buddhists scriptures from Sanskrit into Tibetan there would be no Vajrayana Buddhism . Therefore todays Dharma Teaching is dedicated to one of most important translators in Tibetan Buddhist history , to Lotsawa Kawa Paltseg . Literary meaning of Lotsawa is EYES OF THE WORLD . I. INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR CONTEMPORARY BUDDHIST STUDIES

1.1. EYES OF THE WORLD – LOTSAWA KAWA PALTSEG

In the Life and liberation of Padmasambhava (Odiyan Guru Padmakara Svajamala vimoksa pusanvyuha padma jnakara nama viharati sma) , as recorded by Yeshe Tshogyal , rediscovered by Terchen Urgyal Lingpa (published by Dharma publishing, Berkeley, USA, 1978, part II. Tibet, page 574) we read about Lotsawa Kawa Paltseg :

»At an early age, the Lotsawa Kawa Paltseg was recognised by Padmasambhava as the incarnation of an Indian Mahapandita, purposely born in Tibet in order to translate the texts necessary for the successful transmission of Buddhism . Born in Pembo notrth of Lhasa, he was one of seven Bodhisattvas trained in Sutras by Santarakshita and became one of three most influencial translators at Samye. Together with Chogrolui Gyaltsen and Ma Rinchen Chog, he was dispatched to India by the king Trisong Detsen to invite Vimalamitra to Tibet. Under Padmasambhava*s guidance, Kawa Paltseg studied the tantric teachings and attained a state of peace, composure and harmony whereby his range of vision was not only widened but perfectly cleared . Able to see both the past and the future, he gained the powers of telepathy and clairvoyance. His feat at the Buddhist – Bonpo debate was to cut off his head and put it back again . In addition to his many translations, Kawa Paltseg wrote significant commentaries which were incorporated into Tantric texts. His printed style of calligraphy became popular imitated in all of Tibet, and through his lineage many Nyingma tertons discovered hidden treasures . »

1.2. Guru Padmasambhava prophecy about Kawa Paltseg :

»There is yet another incarnation , who will be Lotsawa of unchallenged renown. He is at Buru, in the upland valley of Pan Yul, at Kaba , the son of the wise Man of Kaba, and of the great Diamond Lady , Drosa. He is no other than Cunda, the disciple of Shakyamuni , and incarnate is called Kawa Paltseg of Kaba . If his father and mother are asked for him , they will give him .«

1.3. Lotsawa Kawa Paltseg first meeting with Guru Padmasambhava :

Lotsawa Kawa Paltseg, Dorje Dudjom and Chogrolui Gyaltsen were sent to India to invite Great Guru Padma to Tibet. When they met with the Lotus-born, they offered him gold dust given by the king Trisong Detsen. The guru Padma throw the gold dust toward furtherst limits of Mang Yul and Nepal. And to messengers he said : »Hold out the flaps of your cloaks.« And he filled them with earth and pebbles. When one by one, they opened the flaps and looked, all was gold, silver , turquoises and precious stones . Filled with complete confidence, they conceived great respect for the saint. » (ibid, page 368).

Lotsawa Kawa Paltseg translated Bodhicaryavatara and other texts like Manjushri-nama-samgiti from Sanskrit into Tibetan . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqF3_yoGOH0

He is portayed in the Thangka of Guru Padmasambhava with Twenty-five disciples who all /except the king/ accomplished Rainbow body.

1.4. Lotsawa Kawa Paltseg first meeting with great Vimalamitra

»Emissaries Rinchen Chog of Ma, Chogrolui Gyaltsen of Chogra and Kawa Paltseg of Kaba were sent to India by King Trisong Detsen. They arrrived to Dharmaraja Indrabhuti with a gift of golden powder. They arrived to the centre of the town Kapilavastu where Buddhist king Dharmaraja was officiating with five hundred pandits. Vimalamitra arose from his seat and said : »Manuduro krohe.« Each of the three emissaries understood this in his own way . Kawa Paltseg understood this as : » Onece the men are in the boat, if they are dilligent rowers, they will cross the river .« And Master Vimalamitra went with them to Tibet . (ibid, page 482) .

Great Dzogchen master Vimalamitra transmitted his lineage to five fortunate students, among them to Kawa Paltseg . Lotsawa Kawa Paltseg was also present during Guru Padma departure from Tibet , as described in Canto 107 (page 730).

»At Samye monastery in the temple of translators Kawa Paltseg translated external formulas, six and five tantras of the rites, four Upaya tantras of Conduct ands the division of Yoga tantra. ….
