 I.Introduction

OM SVASTI dear Friends of Buddha Dharma :  now we focus on true essence of Buddhism -primordial Sound as pointed out by holy scripture of Dra Tal Gyur root tantra, the source of Buddhist Dharmas. We live in the Fortunate aeon where 1002 buddhas will appear, teaching from that supreme Root. In the Nirvana sutra  Shakyamuni Buddha foretold appearance of Garab Dorje who memorised all Ati Yoga tantras. Keep this Teaching in the centre of your Heart. May there be natural Great completeness, primordially present in everyone.

Reflections on Dra Thal Gyur tantra of Dzogchen Upadesha

3.1.1.Introduction :

Namo Guru Dewa Dakini HUM A

Homage to Dharmakaya Buddha Samantabhadra*Samantabhadri, Sambhogakaya Buddha Vajrasattva*Locana, Supreme Nirmanakaya Garab Dorje, Shri Singha,Padmasambhava and Yeshe Tshogyal of Khandro Nyingthig -Heart Essence of the Dakini lineage. Homage to Dzogchen Master Vimalamitra who is the emanation of noble Manjushri and Vima Nyingthig lineage of Ati Yoga Dzogpa chenpo. May their Blessings be always present.

 In 2011 we celebrate 2555 anniversary of Buddha Shakyamuni Enlightenment. Ati Yoga or Dzogchen is the essence of Buddhist Dharma. In the Nirvana sutra  the Enlightened One foretold the appearance of Prahevajra Garab Dorje- Delighteful Vajra in the land of Uddiyana , 360 years after Lord Buddha´s Mahaparinirvana at Kushinagar.

Here we are reflecting  on the three Lineages of transmission of Ati Yoga Dzogpa chenpo as described by Kyabje Thinley Norbu Rinpoche and Visual Dharma : Nyingma Vajrayana Buddhism. Mind / Heart transmission of the buddhas is transmission of the blessing, connected with the Penetration of primordial  Sound (Dra Tal Gyur).Symbolic transmission of the Vidyadharas or Knowledge holders (Tib. Rigpa Dzinpa) through the symbol of A in Rainbow sphere (Tib. Thigle) and Oral transmission of yogis.

3.1.2. Dra Tal Gyur root tantra of Ati Yoga Dzogchen Upadesha :

 Penetration of Sound is the Root of all Buddhas Teachings – as perfectly described in Dra Tal Gyur root tantra of Ati Yoga Dzogchen Upadesha – it is secret Sound of Dharmata , belonging to Direct transmission of the buddhas. Buddhas or Enlightened beings always remain in naturally liberated Sound of Dharmata (Tib. Chönyid kyi rang dra) ….they never depart from their True nature (Skt . Dharmata). Buddhas are Tathagatas – not coming and not going. We all have primordially pure True nature (Tib. Chönyid). It is revealed to everyone in the gap of the   Bardo of  Dharmata (Tib. Chönyid bardo). Brilliant Light, hearable as the Sound of Dharmata . Those with purified and virtuous karma,peaceful minds and  Bodhicitta spontaneously hear natural Sound of Dharmata, their True nature, after being directly  introduced to it by qualified Dzogchen Lama.

3.1.3.Twelve Dzogchen masters : Ati Yoga Dharma of Dra Tal Gyur was first taught by Twelve Dzogchen buddhas , esp. by first Dzogchen buddha Youth of Inconceivable Sublime Light who was the emanation n of Vajradhara. As it is written in the Great History of the of the Heart Essence (Tib. Nyingthig )of Dzogchen Master Vimalamitra : “First, the perfect Teacher great Vajradhara appeared in the realm Abundant Delight, in the perfect palace of the lotus flower. Here. As the Teacher Youth of Inconceivable Sublime light, he taught the Dra Thal Gyur – tantra that precedes all others , the Root of all Teachings – to a retinue of one thousand and two buddhas. Tantra compiler was the celestial youth Mighty Bringer of Joy whose companions included the deva youth Brilliant Sun. This was during the time when a life span could last an incalculable number of years…”

Every one of thousand and two buddhas of Fortunate aeon received supreme Dharma of Dra Tal Gyur – Penetration of Sound at the Palace of the Lotus flower , before descending to this saha world , as Shakyamuni  Buddha did. …Incalculable number of years means this supreme Dharma is still taking place right now- it is not only historic event, it is mystic event…transcendental event for those with transcendental awareness (Skt. Vidya,Tib. Rigpa).It is unimpeded continuity of naturally liberated and primordially pure (Kadak) Sound, spontaneously appearing (Lhundrub) as the secret mode of Energy.

3.1.4. Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche´s commentary on Dra Tal Gyur tantra

On the Dakini day Rinpoche gave commentary on Dra Thal Gyur tantra which can be followed by everyone on live web cast. I wrote down notes and re-write them here in abbreviated mode :”Dra Thal Gyur root tanrta of Dzogchen Upadesha is origin of Dzogchen Teaching which was taught by twelve Dzogchen masters. Last one is Buddha Shakyamuni. …Teachings of the Buddha manifested also from the rocks, from the sky and from the stupa….Buddha foretold manifestation of Garab Dorje ….Dzogchen is the most essential Teaching of Buddhism. When Garab Dorje was small boy he already chanted Dzogchen texts from His memory , like Dorje Sempa Namha Che or Space of Vajrasattva….Twelve Dzogchen masters appeared after 1000 years or kalpas . First Dzogchen Teachers is called Nangwa Talpa. He taught Dra = Sound Thalgyur = direct manifestation of the Sound. …How does Sound manifest ? It is outer, inner (energetic sound-vibration) and secret Sound, manifesting from voidness , with Direct introduction to Dzogchen….For Dzogchen Teaching one does not need initiation, but direct transmission . …When you discover Secret sound, you also discover True nature. Root tantra Dra Thal Gyur is Knowledge about secret Sound. It was transmitted through Twelve Dzogchen masters …Dra Tal Gyur has other sixteen secondary tantras for explanation…Direct  introduction can be connected to oral transmission …Nyan Gyud means continuous oral transmission….Garab Dorje recited / memorised all Dzogchen tantras….Dra Tal Gyur is the mother of all tantras , source of all Dzogchen Teaching. It is source of all spiritual Knowledge. …

Rinpoche received lung or reading transmission of Seventeen tantras of Dzogche n Upadesha at the age of 13. Later he studies Dra Thal Gyur tantra by himself.Later in India he discovered commentary of Dra Thal Gyur tantra written by the Fifth Dalai Lama which was preserved at Drepung monastery in Tibet. After many years Rinpoche obtained CD with scanned copy of that commentary in handwriting and he typed it into computer. Later he also obtained commentary of Dra Thal Gyur by Master Vimalamitra which consist of 336 pages and compared it with the printed version of that commentary made by Kathok monastery in East Tibet. It was found at the library of Kathok Situpa Pandita who was learned scholar. ….

Rinpoche also said : “Explanation of the root text is very long. Dzogchen Teaching must go into this root text of Dra Tal Gyur….Many teachers transmit Dzogchen in a correct way.Other teach Dzogchen only on sutra level. One must go into the essence of Dzogchen : root is the Dra Thal Gyur tantra. Source of Knowledge of Dzogchen is this text of Dra Thal Gyur . It is not only intellectual knowledge. It is Dzogchen with experiences….”

Years ago I asked Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche in a letter to translate and teach from the Dra Thal Gyur root tantra of Dzogchen Upadesha. From the explanation Rinpoche gave on this auspicious Dakini day we can see how endangered this sacred Texts of Dra Thal Gyur and its commentary by Master  Vimalamitra are in human            world ! Almost nobody copy them and very few study them even in Tibetan. There is not yet English translation of Dra Thal Gyur tantra and of Master Vimalamitras  commentary . I am happy that Rinpoche dedicated his life for preserving this sacred Upadesha tantra of Dra Thal Gyur . May his life be healthy, firm and very long !

3.1.5.Afterword :OM SVASTI The intention of this Dharma discourse is not to add to readers intellectual knowledge. The intention is to directly penetrate the meaning, like the penetration of primordial Sound …pervading all directions in timeless presence. May it be auspicious for everyone : all-pervading Goodness of Samantabhadra*Samantabhadri. True study of Ati Yoga Dzogchen Dharma is study through contemplation …So much can be revealed to us directly from enlightened state of Samantabhadra within – if we just listen to natural Sound of Dharmata timelessly present…It is the Dharma Door of Great Completeness….As it is written in my Ati Yoga lineage prayer :” Teach us directly through unimpeded Sound of Dharmata, Sound of all Tathagatas….” Let every Word reverberate – directly  pointing out  true meaning of Samantabhadra within.

 Let us finish this reflection on the Penetration of Sound and the meaning of Mind transmission (gong-pa gyud-pa or transmission through intent) with another panoramic view about Twelve Dzogchen Buddhas :

“Twelve Dzogchen buddhas – from Youth of Sublime Light in the realm of Abundant Delight when a life span could last an incalculable number of years down to a hundred years when Shakyamuni lived at Anathapindada´s pleasure grove in the land of Kapilavastu – the twelve teachers who appeared in the worlds of gods and humans to turn the Dharma wheel of natural Great Perfection, as indicated by the Dra Thal Gyur Root Tantra – are here regarded as the mind transmission of the conquerors .”(Wellsprings of great perfection, pg 114).

Guru Padmasambhava who received Mind transmission of the Buddhas directly from Shri Singha, also taught about Twelve Dzogchen Buddhas in the scripture The Golden Sun that dispels the darkness.

3.1.6 Dedication :May this Dharma writing adorn Buddhas pure land .May all who hear and read it, awaken loving kindness and Bodhicitta . May all beings have confidence and faith in their innate secret Sound*Light  of Dharmata…May all be liberated into six spheres of Samantabhadra Buddha. Mama Koling Samantha …

 Taratulku Drimed Drolkhar Rinpoche DORJE DRÖLO and VAJRAKILAYA are two different manifestations of Guru Padmasambhava. Here is the explanation : VAJRAKILAYA Guru Rinpoche takes the form of Vajrakumara at Yang Leshö in Nepal and subdues local deities and negative forces.He performs the sadhana of Palchen Yangdak Heruka and attains the Vidyadhara level of Mahamudra realisation. He is known as Guru Dorje Töthreng-Vajra Guru Garland of skulls.

Manifestation of Guru Padmasambhava as DORJE DRÖLLO : Guru Rinpoche assumes his wrathful form in Paro Taktsang (Tiger´s nest) in Bhutan ; He brings under his control local deities and guardians .Making them protectors of Terma-Hidden treasure teachings, He entrust them with Secret oral instructions, to be given only to tertöns who shall discover them. He is known as Guru DORJE DRÖLLO- Guru Vajra Wrath. Gesture/mudra of Dorje Dröllo subdues arrogant demons. Method of dharma practice seems different,  but the goal is the same: enlightenment. Most important is to have pure heart, faith and devotion to the Buddha. Many Pure Land Buddhists devotedly recite Amitabha Buddha name, to be reborn and liberated in Amitabha Buddha realm of Ultimate Bliss. They also accomplish high realization  by chanting Amitabha and reciting Pure Land prayers. Recently about six months ago, one of my friends publish article with photo of Chinese lady sitting in meditation  posture at the time of her death. She remainerd in that meditation state for several days. She was simple housewife, but  devotedly prayed and recited Amitabha Buddha name. This is the proof how effective  reciting of Buddha name can be. Buddha Amitabha make this pledge  Whoever see me ,think of me or know me will be liberated in the space of Buddha Amitabha. Born in the lotus and never fall in samsara again. This is my wish and prayer. .Buddha Amitabha  is for human realm Dharmakaya , Quan Yin is Sambogakaya  and Guru Rinpoche is Nirmanakaya.May we all reach  and realize state of Ultimate Bliss of Buddha Amitabha for this I always pray always pray. Tashi delek! I have a confusion about something, please enlighten me about it. The thing is whenever disaster occurs like in Japan, we pray for the affected people to Buddha, but why do we pray to Buddha because Bodisattvas are compassionate and would help sentient beings definitely. So why do we pray? Please enlighten me about this. Thank  you

We pray to the Buddha with such words :
“May all beings be happy and may all have causes of happiness.
May all beings be liberated from suffering and the causes of suffering…”
As human beings and as Buddhists we must have compassionate heart , full of empathy for those who suffer. When you pray for all beings like this, you also pray for yourself to be peaceful and happy, without any suffering and causes of suffering.
When we pray to the Buddha we generate merit / positive energy and dedicate this merit to all beings. With merit and wisdom Buddhist practitioner becomes a Bodhisattva .
Try to learn Verses of prayer to Eight noble auspicious ones , written by Mipham Rinpoche and recite it a loud every day, for yourself and for all sentient beings.

There are no clear-cut definitions or defined causes of Internet addiction. Mainly this is because internet addiction is a newer phenomenon; there are not many precedents. However, that doesn’t mean that someone can’t have an addiction. As more research is completed around this topic.

We advise : It is not good to use internet or PC after 8 pm, because evening and night time must be used to rest . Yet some of our friends on Facebook , esp. in Asia, are online even till 3-4 am! This  is not healthy habit…

all know the way , but few actually walk it if u dont find a teacher soon, you’ll live this life in vain .its true, you have the buddha –nature, but without the help of a teacher you will never know it. only a person in a million becomes enlightened without a teacher’s help if though, by the conjunction of condition ,someone understands what the Buddha meant, that person doesn’t need a teacher. such a person has a natural awareness superior to anything taught. but unless you are so blessed, study hard, and by means of instruction you will understand.
