At the Heritage of Mankind – Treasure of pure Dharma ,
Few days ago we had good fortune to listen to important Dzogchen teachings : Invocation of Samantabhadra – Kunzang Monlam , by Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche on open webcast from Russia , July 19-26,2013 . So lets concentrate on this precious hidden treasure/terma by Rigdzin Godem . It is written in the afterword of Kunzang Monlam : All who hear this supreme Invocation practiced by Dzogchen yogi without distractions, will be liberated from samsara within three lifetimes . This show how important Kunzang Monlam is for all generations and for healing our planet .

25th July 10am-12pm. We started with the practice of Ati Guru Yoga with the Song of Vajra, Then I gave Introduction about how we can use this invocation more than only understanding the meaning and so on.
25th July 5-7pm. We do Gana Puja for ending this teaching retreat and so on.
26th July 10am-12pm. Complete tridlung of the Kunzang Monlam, and some advices for the daily life practices and the tridlungs of collective practices and so on. We finish this retreat with a practice of Ati Guru Yoga altogether.

As nakhai Norbu Rinpoche taught at the end of open webcast : Kunzang Monlam or Invocation of Samantabhadra is practiced widely in Nyingma and Kagyu orders of Vajrayana Buddhism and there are different melodies of Kunzang Monlam. One melody follows Seven-line invocation of Guru Padmasambhava . Another melody –which we presented in Visual Dharma-is practiced in Bhutan .
Our Visual Dharma has Tibetan text , transliteration and English translation .

This melody is strong and demands from Dzogchen practitioner a lot of energy . Showing us that Buddhists in Bhutan are strong practitioners  Another melody inspired Khenpo Pema Chopel Rinpoche . This video also has Chinese translation of Kunzang Monlam .

I started researching about Invocation of Samantabhadra shortly after the Teachings of Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche in 1996 , because it was included in his Dharma book . It took me few years to prepare two Visual Dharmas : Wish-granting Prayer of Samantabhadra , with English translation which was done comparing different already existing English & German translations (Keith Dowman, Tina Lang and others).

On Oct 25, 2004 I obtained Lung/Reading transmission of Kunzang Monlam from Khenpo Sonam Chorpel who was teaching at Buddhist center in Graz . Rinpoche received transmission from the present principal of Nyingma order : Kyabje Tsetrul Rinpoche .

Kunzang Monlam or Kunzang Gongpa Zhangtal comes from Northern treasure Lineage of Nyingma Vajrayana . It is part of big collection of termas, discovered by Rigdzin Godem Chan ., one of the three terton kings .

During years of creting Visual Dharmas with Kunzang Monlam I contemplated the meaning of Zhangtal : Direct transference into the dynamics of Kuntu Zangpo , primordial Buddha Samantabhadra Dharmakaya . If we have true Faith in the Lineage of samantabhadra we are transfered into dynamics of Kuntuzangpo and receive the Blessings of the Lineage . In this sense the Invocation of Samantabhadra contains Direct introduction :

To maintain Mind transmission / Blessings of the Buddhas through the Natural Sound of Dharmata (Tib. Chönyid kyi rangdra) there are A-ti Yoga retreats at special places , supporting Contemplation / Samadhi.

Kunzang Monlam was practiced on all Ati Yoga Dzogchen retreats at Unesco World Heritage site / Cres island in Croatia as well in Alps of Austria and other places, such as Nepal (Mangala Konchok Norbu pilgrimage).
2.2. It is so auspicious that Cjogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche taught Kunzang Monlam on open webcast . Rinpoche received transmission of the Invocation of Samantabhadra in his youth during retreat at his uncles house in East Tibet , visited by the son of Adzom Drukpa who was expert of Kunzang Monlam . During open webcast I wrote down some notes for better clarification of specific verses . Obviously first two verses which explain tnhe Base/Zhi of every being, are the most important to understand , esp. the verse about One Base and two paths and two results .
There are published books with Kunzang Monlam where this undestanding of the Base and two Paths and two results are not obvious and not correctly explained . Guru Padmasambhava gave this advice how to unite the View of emptiness with activities in daily life :

»Although my View is higher than the sky, my observation of the cause and effect are more subtle as the grains of meal .« namkhai Norbu Rinpoche also always explain at the end of each open webcast how to practice integration : by being present and aware . Other Buddhist terms for this is Mindfulness .

After Treaching about the Base/Zhi of Dzogchen as written in first two verses of Kunzang Zhangtal, Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche is teaching about Garab Dorje Three statements . Direct introduction is most important in Dzogchen Ati Yoga, more than initiations of Vajrayana. Nyingthig Yabzhi is initiation in Dzogchen, but with Direct introduction. Tsigsum Nedek is title of Patrul Rinpoche commentary about Three statements of Garab Dorje . Patrul Rinpoche gave Direct introduction with the syllable Phat ! Real state of everyone is beyond explanations. Our Real nature is Dharmakaya. Prajnaparamita sutra is also beyond explanation. The Buddha said : Nectar-like Dharma-very deep and peaceful – I have discovered , but when I tried to explain it, nobody understand ….One should not explain Direct introduction of Dzogchen to Sakya and gelukpa masters, because they don+t accept Direct introduction as practiced in Dzogchen …

Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche explains about Direct introduction with experiences of emptiness and clarity. Experience of emptiness and Bliss are not many trimes taught in Dzochen . But one can visualise oneself as Vajrasattva yab yum and have experience of emptiness and bliss.

Open webcast , July 23, 2013 : Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche explains about purification of body, speech and mind : in Mahayana we practice prostrations , related to physical level, our body. This is related to good intentions. Witn our mind we cultivate Bodhicitta and visualise.
BARDO OF DHARMATA appears before ordinary bardo . It is similar to the state before sleep. In such state we practice Guru Yoga : white A in thigle and relaxation. There must be continuation of that presence . Night is half of our lives !
Supreme purification is to be in the state of Contemplation (Samadhi), even for very short time. Buddha explaned in the Sutra : to be in absolute truths is to be in state of emptiness . SONG OF VAJRA is supreme purification : all syllables/Sounds are connected to chakras in our physical body. During open webcast thousands of Dzogchen practitioners sing the Song of Vajra to benefit the planet .
Rinpoche explains about the meaning of relationship and love : most important is mutual respect and collaboration. Also in relationship there are two dimensions , not one .
Invocation of Samantabhadra is teaching self-liberation of attachment (not accepting and not rejecting, but relaxing in natural state).
Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche explains how to self-liberate anger, as taught in the Invocation of Samantabhadra. Anger is related to tensions . Vajrayana knows transformation of anger into wrathful manifestations . Also in Anuyoga we practice wrathful manifestations : Siamukha , Guru Drakpur. Self-liberation of anger means manifesting wisdom of clarity .
bloggif_50ca253b0d86c Ancient Dzogchen master Nub Sangye Yeshe wrote very important text : Samten Midron , about other non-gradual Teachings like Chan . Tibetans began to follow Kamalasila gradual sutra system and denied non-gradual sutra system of Chan. Nub Sangye Yeshe wrote very precisely about this . He lived two generations after Guru Padmasambhava. He also taught Anuyoga which came from today Kirgisztan . Guru Padmasambhava advised to obtain also root tantra of Anuyoga . Later translator Vairocana translated this texts into Tibetan (from Udiyana). …There are 3 Vol of Anuyoga tantras , later also commentaries.

Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche : our Base is primordial Buddha Samantabhadra. Invocation explains two kinds of ignorance (marigpa) and how negative emotions can be self-liberated. Yesterday there was explanation about self-liberation of attachment and anger. When thought/emotion arises we must observe it and it self-liberates . With attachment and anger there comes pride and jelaousy.
Concluding verses : all transmigration is in three worlds (kamadhatu,rupadhatu,arupadhatu are explained in Abidharmakosha: dimension of emotion, form and no-form). Dewas like Brahma , Shiva belong to samsara . Teachings about 6 lokas are according to Anuyoga and Dzogchen. Samantabhadra Buddha is praying : all sentient beings of six realms are the same as me, Samantabhadra . Visions and actions of beings of six lokas are illusory .Samantabhadra is praying : be in your Real nature . May all sentient beings be liberated with Invocation and instruction of Samantabhadra. May all sentient beings be liberated in Dharmadhatu .

Dzogchen practitioner (Naljyor, Yogi) with potentiality of Knowledge (of Real nature) should chant Invocation of Samantabhadra (Monlam ) in the state of contemplation (like singing the Song of Vajra). Every sentient being who hear such Invocation will be liberated from samsara during three lifetimes ! This shows the power of Invocation of Samantabhadra . Invocation should be chanted during eclipses of the sun and moon , multiplying merit . In Vajrayana there is explanation about eclipses : meeting of solar & lunar energy (in ourselves). Invocation of Samantabhadra should be chanted also during strong sounds , earthquakes , summer and winter solstice , beginning of new year (solar and lunar new year) .
How to practice Invocation of Samantabhadra : in the state of contemplation, like singing the Song of the Vajra. Those who don+t have capacity of contemplation/samadhi, visualise themselves as Samantabhadra Buddha and chant the Invocation .
Rinpoche taught new melody for the Invocation of Samantabhadra , slow and contemplative .
May all beings be liberated into six spaces of Samantabhadra primordial Buddha .
